***WARNING**** much of this information is for my family...not that all of you can't read it...it just may be very detail orientated. More than some of you would like!
Well, I am here in Switzerland. The transition has been great. Thank you so much for your prayers. I have been more homesick than I would have expected...but I have had a tremendous amount of down time. Once things start to pick up I know it will be better. Everything we learned in Candidate School has been very helpful! It is crazy how things help. Like I unpacked some loose pictures I packed last minute...well they moved me to tears. I am really glad I brought them. I don't even know where to start.
My flight: All was good. I did not even share a row with anyone until my flight from Zurich to Geneva. So therefore on all of my flights I could sleep and spread out. I also had a window seat on each flight. I was thankful for that as well so I could see all of the scenery.
My Host Family: They are so so great. They rearranged their entire upstairs for me to have privacy in my own room. David, the father, works in Zurich and is home on the weekends. He spent the entire time working...poor guy. I told him his trian ride to work will be more relaxing than being at home. I am so greatful for them. Marie and David Petraitis as well as their two daughters Lisa and Christina. All the spelling may be completly off! We live in an apartment. Everyone here does. I acutally haven't seen a one family house yet to my knowledge because all of the houses are covered by trees or walls. They told me that everyone here is very private. I acutally have not even been in Geneva. The best way I can describe it is the Dallas area. But please do not make mental images when you think of this because it looks nothing the same. Geneva is the big city (Dallas) with all of these little towns near. I live in Gland and my Church is in Nyon and the Youth for Christ office is in Coppet. I bought my train pass to go inbetween all of them. After seven pm i can travel for free...i think anywhere in switzerland????
The cars and the roads are much smaller here!
Food: So far it hasn't been much different. Everything seems more fresh. Meals here are also not rushed. You sit down as a family at every meal and you orientate a time for everyone to be present. Mom, you wouldn't like it...clean up every time!!!! So far I have had pizza, steak with potatoes and veggies, tacos, pasta...o that was so good. the sauce was from italy.
Everyone speaks French. Much more than I anticipated. I wish I could take classes or would have taken classes. I am fine because I live with people that speak English, go to an english speaking church and I work with people who speak english...but if I jsut want to go into town or something no one speaks English. I am trying to pick up key words!
Well, I know there is much more. Look at my pictures and you will understand more! There are many more photo albums there for you to look at but the carnival picture album is the most recent.
