Hi-
So every now and then I like to look for different resources that will help me learn more about youth ministry. (If you have any rescources you use let me know)
I came across one resource that I feel will affect me and the way I do ministry for forever; and I wanted to share it with you!
You can check the article out by clicking HERE.
The general idea of it is that we need to teach students by giving them meat and not milk (Hebrews 5:12-14)
"In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
The reason for this is because of what Christ says in the latter part of the "Great Commission" (Matthew 20:28).
"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
The man in the article (Tony), places an urgency on the idea that we, as youth workers, have a responsibility to teach doctrine to youth in the church. If you are interested to hear more of why he says this and his stance check out the article.
Another thing that he said that I really liked, that I want to practice, is doing the word and not just hearing the word. An example he gave was that his kids went to a Christian school (he didn't necessarily support sending kids to a Christian school) and as they were taught a principle of Christ's teaching; the following week they were given the chance to go and do what they had learned...for instance through a service project.
I was encouraged and inspired by this article. It gave me tons of ideas for my current ministry as well as what I will look for in a youth ministry when I am done here in Geneva.
Please leave any comments!!! I would love to hear them!
