Many of you may know my brother is on his spring break in Mexico right now. He is a part of a Christian organization on his campus (UNK). I just wanted to update you on his arrival and plans. Please be praying for his time there! Below is an email I received....
Greetings from the UNK team!
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Thank you for your many thoughts and prayers as we have embarked on this journey to Mexico. We are finally here and made it safe and sound. Here is a glimpse of the trip from one of the students, Dru Wehrs.
"Once we were in Mexico, things instantly changed. The streets became narrower, the buildings were smaller, and the language barrier became instantly evident. Who would've guessed that an 'e' with a line through it meant 'no parking.' The people of Mexico have a capacity for love and caring that no town in America can come close to imitating. These people drive 20 year old cars, if they even have one, live in houses made from billboards, concrete, tin, and literally everything they can find. But you know what? They're happy. Imagine if 70 people who don't speak your language came to your house, and needed a place to sleep and food to eat. They welcomed us with open arms. A cliché that hardly starts to describe the love these people have.
The church services were interesting, almost amazing. We may not have understood what was being said, but one thing was for sure, the love of Christ is universal. Because we all read the same Bible, face the same problems and feel the same presence as the Words are being read. What I got from the Bible study, is the importance of family, and the problems they face, and that we have the love for each other and that of Christ. That love unites us and destroys any language or cultural barrier. No one can hide the love of Christ and no one can deny it even if you can't understand what's being said.
God has definitely been watching over our caravan. No one has gotten lost, separated, sick, injured, or put in any state of harm. At the two border crossings, the check point especially, He moved the hearts of the guards to let our convoy pass. We were held up for about an hour and a half as Greg Swinney and our Mexican friend Jose Julio negotiated with the border guards. When we knew things looked grim, our group joined in prayer and a small miracle happened. We loaded back in the vans and our drivers followed soon after. We were on our way to Nueva Rosita.
It isn't all that difficult to see God working in every aspect of this trip. His hand has guided our vans in safe travel. His words have been spoken and resounded in our hearts at the church services and His love is being shown through the kindness of the Mexican people."
Thanks again for your continued support throughout this mission experience. Please pray for continued safety and health on our work sites and unity among our group and the people of Mexico.
Dios le bendiga,
The Mexico Missions Team
